Call for Artists Submissions and Lumen Print Workshop at Papergirl Vancouver

Papergirl Vancouver, in collaboration with the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre, invites you to participate in the 4th year of this volunteer-driven, pedal-powered project. Combining art, philanthropy, and bicycles, Papergirl uses the gift of giving art to build community and enact positive social change.

Papergirl Vancouver invites artists of all ages, creative backgrounds, and abilities to submit their work. Participants will connect with their community and become part of a larger global Papergirl movement. Their artwork will be featured in a non-juried, uncurated public exhibition at the Roundhouse Community Centre from July 8 to July 11, 2014. Artwork will then be taken down, rolled up, and gifted to the unsuspecting public by volunteer cyclists, on July 19.

Artwork submissions can be dropped off in person or mailed to the Roundhouse Community Centre by June 26, 2014. Please visit our website for more details and to complete a submission form: www.papergirlvancouver.com.

Looking for another creative outlet? On May 27 and May 29, 2014, Papergirl Vancouver and local multidisciplinary artist Phyllis Schwartz will be presenting a two-part lumen-printmaking workshop, “Photography without Cameras.” Schwartz explains, “In this hands-on workshop, participants will make photograms of plant materials, and discover how plant materials leave marks and traces on photosensitive paper; the work will look like colourful x-rays.” Tickets are available for $21 (includes all supplies, materials, and 3 prints) and can be purchased at www.papergirlvancouver.com.

An idea that began in 2006 in Berlin has since spread worldwide. PAPERGIRL CALGARY WORKSHOPS COMING UP IN AUGUST!

During the Papergirl Calgary Exhibition (Aug 14-18, 2013) at Epcor Centre for the Performing Arts (in the Arts Learning Centre), Papergirl Calgary will also host 2 Ba-ba-ba-rilliant art workshops: PRINTSTRAVAGANZA! (Aug 15, 5-7:30pm) & BIKE BLING-A-LING (Aug 17, 3-5pm).

There will also be one ahhhh-mazing Poetry workshop: EPCORCENTRE PRESENTS: POETRY FLOATS, a workshop conducted by Kris Demeanor, Calgary’s very own Poet Laureate! Exciting! This will take place in the Art Learning Centre at EPCOR, and also in Olympic Plaza.

Spaces will be limited for each workshop so make sure to sign up early!

Papergirl 3city, Poland is calling for artworks!

Papergirl 3city, 2012

Join Papergirl 3city (Gdansk, Sopot and Gdynia in Poland)! The artworks will be presented during the outdoor exhibition on "Streetwaves”* on 1 or 2 June in Gdansk. After the opening they will be distributed by volunteers on bicycles to random passers-by in the streets. You can send us artworks or help with the distribution. What is important is an element of surprise! Give your art away!

Papergirl Candal-Lousã THE ART OF SHARING ART!

For the submissions:
-     No limitations on Materials! The only stipulation is you need to be able to roll it up. It can be: drawings, painting, posters, textiles, photos, stickers etc. anything! Everything!!!

-     No limitations on the content of the artworks! Every artist will represent him/herself with the content of the submitted artwork. It can be anything they wish.
-     No size limitations! As long as it can be distributed by bicycles in public ( It could be a 5x5 sticker or 50x70 paper print. )
-      Should be at least 2 copies! Submitted artworks will be part of the exhibition and the distribution action, so we ask you to send at least 2 copies. More artworks, more distribution!
-     The method of copy is up to artists ! Digital prints, photocopy, prints. every technique its ok.
-     Don't forget to add your contact information! Name/surname, e-mail address and website should be attached to your artworks. So people can know you, acknowledge your work or even get in touch with you afterwards!

PAPERGIRL CALGARY is calling you!

Art should be accessible to everyone!  Taking art out of the gallery and into the streets via old-school bicycle delivery format - this is Papergirl.

What happens in a Papergirl project?

• A call for art submissions goes out to Calgary’s art community, across Canada, and the world!
• The artwork is exhibited* (Papergirl is proudly partnered with EPCOR CENTRE for the Performing Arts)
• At the end of the exhibit all submitted works are rolled up and delivered at random by Papergirls ‘n boys to the unsuspecting local Calgary community. It’s a massive ‘giftervention’!

The Results of Papergirl? Artists of all styles, genres and experience, exhibit their work together AND share it with a new ‘collector’. Papergirls ‘n boys get some great exercise and plenty of smiles whilst gifting art. Volunteers get to know their community a bit better, AND hundreds of Calgarians make and receive fabulous works of art!
